A note about our trees:

I got into this because I didn’t see these kinds of trees offered at local nurseries. Local genetics with traceability from specimen mother trees. Part of the price is careful sourcing and attention to place.

Additionally, nurseries make more money when they can sell you a 6-year-old burlapped tree with a mangled root system. It might look more like a fully formed tree which can be more palatable for many consumers, but after transplanting, a one-year-old seedling with a healthy root system will eventually outgrow a larger tree over a few years or so. Given the right conditions, these trees will outlive us by a long shot. We should be planting trees for the next 100 years, not what looks good today. At Perennial Gold, we provide what others too often don’t: young trees with healthy roots!

And honestly, part of it is the economy of scale. We are a small nursery that is just getting going as a business. Your purchase is an investment in a future where these kinds of things matter. We appreciate that people who buy our limited supply of seedlings are people who take seriously the care, planting, and protection of those seedlings, and will set them up for success in the long term.

If you have any questions as to what species to plant and where, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your interest and support of oak restoration in Southeast Michigan!
