As we get to know the trees around us, they became what they always were: family. Perennial Gold is built on that mindfulness and a belief that humans can be incredible agents of positive change for the ecosystems we inhabit.

We take pride in propagating amazing remnant oak trees that are native to Southeast Michigan and are well adapted to our area. 75% of oak trees are mature, which means there aren’t enough growing to replace the current generation. They face threats from a lack of natural disturbance on the landscape, deer overpopulation, invasive species, and more. Our landscaping could be part of the solution.

The Crew

Jackson Goldklang

Founder, Forester, Filmmaker

I started growing edible trees in my backyard because I saw agroforestry as the future of our food systems. This led me to getting my Master’s in Forestry from Michigan State. Through that experience I fell in love with oak trees, and learned about their imminent decline in the Eastern US. With the help of a remnant Bur Oak at my family’s home, I started the journey that has culminated in the Perennial Gold nursery. I utilize my background in film make videos to inform and inspire others as to why adoption of native landscaping and the integration of trees into our food systems are two of the most pressing issues of our time.

Abena Stone

Abena is a multitalented artist and plant cultivator. She’s been with Perennial Gold from the start and has played an integral role in shaping success for the nursery. From designing the logo to hand illustrated landscape designs to day-to-day care of plants, she does it all and well.
